Space is not a sterile environment. There is always life even in the most inhospitable environments as long as it has what it needs to reproduce. Then there's the whole most tests are designed to detect life only as it is known on Earth. The real fun shit is the extremely slow life process some of it has that exceeds a human lifespan by several thousand years.
