We don't have cable or satellite. We just buy or rent dvds. Not sure how they are watching me.

They can't in that case the frequency is linked to the freq from transmission just turning on a screen has really no effect, you would need to be getting a 'free to air' stream or some other stream 'cable' 'sat' etc.
