We are already about to automate surveillance. Voice and face recognition are always improving. Cameras are already everywhere and drones are getting cheaper each year. People voluntarily wiretap their houses with smart devices.

Even propaganda can be automated. People probably already created bots that automatically vote on reddit based on certain keywords to suppress news. Facebook is working on an AI that can identify offensive memes.
