The Russians know exactly who they are. I'm pretty sure they've been listening in on the communications between the helicopters and whoever it is they're talking to on the ground.
This. -and their response is tactically correct: Will they effect the enemy more my pointing out the fact or destroying the helicopters? (I would do both..)
