Why do normal citizens join masonic groups? I see cars with stickers on the back and have masonic groups in my town. Should I burn them down?

I walked into a Masonic lodge once to hopefully get someone to try and recruit me. Wanted to see what sorts of reasoning they used and if any manipulation tactics, lies, etc (the typical religious bullshit)

The fucking dude didn’t even consider talking to me. I was dressed presentable and I’m a typical and articulate white male.

What happened? He push you out the door?

He dismissed my visit. I think he may have smelled bs because my opening was “hi I’m new to the neighborhood and drove by and wanted to know how to join/what this place is all about... etc” lol

Like I obviously didn’t know what these people were doing OR I knew and was attempting to troll/infiltrate.

A better strategy would be to join the local softball team and look for masonry rings and necklaces and make friends with those people and hopefully get invited to a lodge meeting🤝

People join masonic groups for every reason the same that they join churches or any other group.

But most people in masonic groups are interested in obtaining, or at least networking with, power and people in power.

Throughout my life I've encountered a few seemingly decent folk who where in masons, but the slightly smug grin that they have is unsettling.

So wtf do they do at these places?

They do silly rituals and find people who are well connected to hang out with. Always being slowly pushed up the ranks into grey territory. I'm not in one but I've closely known people in them, off and on throughout my life. At the higher levels they wield significant power over those below them, but are ever more beholden to those above. To the point of being able to blackmail, frame, or massively interfere with just about anyone.

It's hard to seperate the USA from the FreeMasons. Washington was a freemason. In some ways the secrecy of the freemasons is what helped in getting the revolutionary war off the ground. But there is a darkness there. From everything I've read, at the end of it all they worship lucifer, satan, the literal devil, but as an angel of light... at least so they say.
