You get that all over in the sciences. It takes anal retentive people to do real lab science - there are so many stupid details a normal person would just give up and half ass it.
Unfortunately anal retentive types are usually terrible at managing others. Unless kept in check, that personality type will turn their lab into a hellish slavescape for any underlings.
This is part of why academia is so bitchy in comparison to industrial science - less people above them to keep that ego down.
