It really wasn't a huge loss though. Its family land that's been paid off for generations, so there's no real investment. They sold something like 13k acres for the equivalent of about 112 million USD, netting them well over 8k USD per acre. Given current prices, anything between 4-10k USD per acre would be considered normal in Europe. It all depends what kind of trees grow on the land, but this actually seems like they did okay for themselves.
