Not true at all. Christianity -- the teachings of Christ -- are the antithesis of Judaism. Seriously. Yes, the fact that Christians attempt to reconcile the Old Testament with the New Testament is nuts. Not all Christians do, though. Many erroneously think that we have to embrace the Old Testament because it prophesied that Jesus would be the Messiah. There may be parts of the Old Testament that are okay -- but I am firmly convinced that the god of the Old Testament is NOT the same as the God of the New Testament. That is why you have such blatant contradictions as "eye for an eye" in OT and "turn the other cheek" in the NT. Jesus preached personal responsibility and a focus on self rather than on enforcing rules on everyone else. Morality is basically an issue of self-discipline. You are supposed to help other people do the right thing (educate them, help them turn their lives around, etc.) but basically it is up to an individual to make the choice to live a good life. That is a core of the teachings of Jesus. It has been perverted over time by people who use religion to manipulate others, but that doesn't mean that the teachings of Jesus are invalid because some people seek to manipulate others with it. That is like saying that science is evil because it was used to build a nuclear weapon and biological weapons. Religion, like all things, can be a force for good or for evil. How we use it in our lives is up to us.
