Paramilitary contractors stay in business by working with military intelligence to do nasty stuff that the US govt (and others) can't get away with. The security firms on US soil are a little more subtle in their business, but behind closed doors they probably have deals with everyone from the CIA to the mafia.
To answer your question, they stay in business by flying below the radar of normies, and taking big fat checks from all the worst people. I mean, lets be real, how many people out of 1000 would know what industry G4S even works in?
