Usually the heat from the fire won't burn the tree but instead causes the pine-cones to open up and disperse their seeds on the newly burned ground. This gives them the advantage of an early start against the faster growing plants that would normally out compete the more resource intensive sapling.

Some trees are naturally fire resistant. The trees depend on fire to sprout.

If the trees are fire resistant but they depend on fire to sprout, then how can they ever sprout?
If the trees are naturally fire resistant, how can the fire spread through such trees (as in the above photograph)?
