Psychoactive/illegal or not, both are used as a coping mechanism for dealing with your shitty life instead of making it better if used in excess. The difference, in that respect, is that one is a literal poison that will kill you when taken in excess and the other will make you melt into your couch for a few hours and then want taco bell at 3 am.
I'm not all "dude weed" because I use neither, but one seems worse than the other.
