I read an article that demythed this. Rare earth minerals are in many places. It is just a horribly dirty process to refine them and places that want to preserve their environments pass on producing them. That is why China is an ecological disaster and their rivers are dead.

They did 9/11 and got away with it largely. The public is too fat, medicated and distracted to care for the most part. I don't find it unthinkable. :(
