That's google not reddit. If you didn't get hassled about your IP when using tor previously then it's basically a miracle. Although I think reddit might have not had/used their own captcha in the past.
It sounds like you may be knowledgeable enough to answer this question. Would you personally recommend using the medium or the maximum security settings or is there some custom cocktail? Only asking because I remember how Google and their whole captcha processed basically defeats the purpose of tour when visiting sites that require you to use it. I'm sure there are many other things like that and I know JavaScript is right up there on the huge security issues so just curious if you could lend some insight.

Only use Tor Browser with Tor. Your browser fingerprint will give you away otherwise.
