I heard a lot of speculation over the years. I also know that the foreskin contains many nerve endings so it makes sense that it would cause such pain and trauma. After all, the original reason that they preformed the procedure was claimed to be for cleanliness ... but this is 2017 and we can bleach our assholes for cosmetic purposes so I think we can handle teaching our children how to clean their extra skin around their genitals.
The ORIGINAL reason, has nothing to do with cleanliness. It was a sign of the covenant between the old testament god and his people. The bible never once says anything about the health benefits of circumcision.
