The Hungarians had a massive crisis on their hands and had to get something done fast, so they put up a fence with steel uprights, barbed wire and an electrified top, and watchtowers with armed guards and armed guards patrolling between.

you don't really need a wall. A line drawn in the sand would work, you just have to shoot anyone that crosses it
