The recent debate about the Confederate flag has been making its circles in conspiracy communities as well as in libertarian and other "states rights" friendly communities.
I've been meaning to make a statement about this thing but something just kept nagging at me that wouldn't allow me to outright support state's rights by virtue of supporting the Confederate Battle flag.
I support state's rights 100% and without question, I feel as though the federal government has failed to competently fulfill its own constitutional role such as minting currency and collecting taxes in a lawful way.
That being said and the reason I have never flown a Confederate flag, the flag represents much more than state's rights. Even if that is the only thing it means to you, you are allowing those who oppose state's rights to control the debate under the context of all those other things the Confederate flag might represent to individuals across the country.
Pride in your heritage is great and dandy but that heritage happened in the past and its there, it can't be taken away from you. You don't have to fight for your heritage because you're born with it, all you have to do is embrace it or reject it.
State's rights on the other hand need to be fought for, they can be (and have been) taken away.
The state's rights movement and supporters need to rally around a new flag. We need a flag that doesn't have the bagadge of slavery and civil war. We need a flag that everyone who believes in state's rights can fly without having to ignore the "other things" that flag might represent to our neighbors, our friends and those people who don't yet have an opinion on the matter.
State's rights shouldn't forever be a topic shackled to ignorant phrases like "The south shall rise again".
There are states up north, out west and even in the ocean. They need rights too.
Let's make a new flag.
