There was no truth to it. The original article lacked any critical details like when and where the confession occurred, or how the supposed assassination took place, and no other ‘credible’ news outlet reported the story as true.
This is how snoopes and other msm "debunked" this story. Notice how they are not denying the existence of the Mi5 agent.
We all know that it was much more likely for Diana to have been murdered than to have died in an accident.
However this story is nothing more than hearsay. There is nothing to debunk or confirm, because there is nothing there. (That's why it's posted in /v/Conspiracy and not in /v/news)
