It has become powerful enough with influence that actions have been taken to mitigate that power by necessary means, by capable actors.

Support for this idea can include:

  • The seeming inability for anti tpp to take hold
  • The reach out to voat
  • The splintering to other sites
  • etc

If that was actually shown to be true, I can honestly say it wouldn't surprise me. The way Pao has run things since becoming interim CEO certainly corroborates that theory, it's almost like she purposely has chosen to go against everything that reddit stood for (like freedom of speech and the community's right to choose what becomes "the front page of the internet).
