Take a look around. It's already happened. Votes, likes aren't authentic anymore. Not on the bigger sites like facebook, twitter, and reddit. Is the main reason I hang out here.
There does seem to be a trend with places blowing up and then becoming astroturfed to all hell. Basically all of reddit is astroturfed with shills and so is 4chan & 8chans POL's; On /pol/ its painfully obvious. It also hasn't already happened because anyone can make a website like reddit or voat. Just because all the big players are in the pockets of the neo-cons doesn't mean internet freedom is absolutely dead. Its probably on its way out though unless something changes with-in the next couple of years.
