Trump has flipped his stance on jullian assange, and shortly after the new attempt to charge assange started, glen greenwald came out and asked "what is stopping trump from going after other outlets then?"
The answer is that this is the goal. Trump will use this as a legal precedent to go after "dangerous fake media" by the time this hits the supreme court, bader ginsburg will most likely be replaced by a new trump appointee, stacking the supreme court in his favor.
So after assange and wikileaks gets taken down, trump then can legally move to take down the corporate mainstream media, and the corporations behind them. Let this sink in.
Trump gets to destroy the old establishment, and allow a new establishment to take over, one that he can be a big part of. One that won't have "fake news".
The corporate media is removed, the corporations behind them and their donations to congress are also removed, and a full fledged restructuring in america takes place.

I don't see how we lose in this scenario. If this were true, it would likely be the final step in pushing people away from the idea of MSM entirely. It's impossible for a new MSM establishment to take over during these times, simply because nobody would be left to care about them anymore.

The thing is, trump mentioned his son in law starting up a new news network to "replace fox"
So starting up a new network is on his agenda.

Given Trump senior's relation to Steve Bannon of Breitbart, it's very likely that this was and still is the case.
I just don't see how it can manage to become anything more than what Fox news is now, if they try to do this the mainstream way. Too many people distrust large news organizations at this point to build it back up.

I suspect that one method would be suing the networks or criminally prosecuting them, then having his son or some other co conspirator go in and buy them dirt cheap. They then merge them all together.
It would not be a "monopoly" because there would be "other news sources"
