I am not a TSA apologist, but you need to know the backstory on this. The kid has a sensory disorder and his mother was afraid he would freak out from being touched, so she spent about 30 minutes trying to convince them to not give the kid a pat-down, to the extent she insisted that two police officers be called and eventually be there to witness the pat down in case her kid freaked out so that he wouldn't get arrested. Also, her kid had packed a laptop in his luggage and "forgot" to take it out, which separately sent up a red flag.
So the reason this pat down is so fucking deliberate and drawn out is that the mother and the kid did everything possible to make themselves appear suspicious, but also to indicate that the mom was ready to file charges against the TSA. So this guy is making sure to do a very, very thorough pat down precisely because the woman spent so very, very long insisting that her kid should not get a pat down, after he had tried to send his laptop around the scanner in a carryon bag.
From this video, it appears that the woman doesn't give her kid enough credit. If she had just shut up and let the TSA do their normal 10-second pat down, none of this would have happened.
