Why is this important? It's more evidence the fundamentals of the US are getting worse, because leadership is not doing their job, because they are corrupt, inept, or blocked.
Keep in mind that the U-3 unemployment rate, the one most often reported by the US media, does not take into account temp workers. So the U-3 doesn't show the real picture and is artificially low. None of the BLS unemployment rates differentiate between one full-time job and multiple part-time jobs. More and more Americans have 2+ part time jobs now.

Yes. Unemployment rate U-3 only includes people actively looking for a job. It does not include people who have given up nor people whose benefits have run out. (Which happened several times in the Great Recession.) The U3 really doesn't mean much these days.
