94% of job growth from 2005 to 2015 was in contractors, temporary workers, and freelancers (like Upwork, Uber, etc). Qz.com article here.

Why is this important? It's more evidence the fundamentals of the US are getting worse, because leadership is not doing their job, because they are corrupt, inept, or blocked.

Keep in mind that the U-3 unemployment rate, the one most often reported by the US media, does not take into account temp workers. So the U-3 doesn't show the real picture and is artificially low. None of the BLS unemployment rates differentiate between one full-time job and multiple part-time jobs. More and more Americans have 2+ part time jobs now.

Also, doesn't the unemployment rate not include people not looking for a job?

Yes. Unemployment rate U-3 only includes people actively looking for a job. It does not include people who have given up nor people whose benefits have run out. (Which happened several times in the Great Recession.) The U3 really doesn't mean much these days.
