Our defeat? I for one am not going to go out and drink and relish in our idealistic tendency to believe we are or ever were truly free. It shames us as a country to celebrate when we have the NDAA on the books. Bill Hicks said it best. "you are free to do as we tell you, go back to bed america. You are free to do as we tell you..

As a Canadian I can tell you you should celebrate it, in some way.
The Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution. These are revolutionary documents, not just to America, but to the world. They are examples of basic freedoms for the people for any nation to follow. This is why they are trampled on by Tyrants.
What you should celebrate is the true birth of freedom, even if the idea has been perverted, the very fact that not only do you do not support that perversion of freedoms, but you also oppose it, makes you more entitled to celebrate it.
So by simply not getting drunk enough to submit to illegal roadside searches and molestations, you truly are celebrating your independence.
So happy 4th. However you spend it.
