With all the things that have transpired in the last 2 years or so, I think the vast majority of people who care to be aware have alarm bells going off in their heads in regards to how everything is most definitely not what it seems to be.
One of the biggest things that I have personally been reading into is WWI and WWII, the events leading up to it, and the giant amounts of propaganda and back scratching that was going on, as well as the scape goating and cover ups of atrocities.
The one thing that keeps becoming apparent to me is that greed and pride is the primary reason that our cilization continues to have problems.
The release of the wikileaks and the blatant disregard of its importance by the media shows just how passive much of the world is to corruption. I think this has come about through both social engineering as well as how frequent it seems to be happening. We expect our politicians to be crooked and greedy. We expect large companies to be crooked and greedy. So we're not surprised about it and we also feel helpless to stop those large, powerful, rich entities.
So my thoughts are, in this day and age, why not make everything transparent. Get rid of privacy. Yes, it would suck, especially if you're not a very honest person in the first place. But wouldn't it have a domino effect of making people become more honest? I mean, at this point nothing is secure anyway, and google has everything on everyone already. Europe has already passed a law allowing the police to access your information if they have the clearance to do so. We know the US has been doing it for a while (thanks for verifying, Snowden). If everything is in the open and accessible by everyone, then hidden agendas will be exposed, payoffs will be exposed, there wont be any more misreporting through word of mouth because you can directly to the source to verify.
Idk, I'm just kinda thinking out loud and wondered what other people thought on this.
I mean, take for example Fukushima. I guarantee you they knew things were not functioning properly before things went haywire. But someone probably didn't want to lose their job or be held accountable for it. Imagine if that became public knowledge before the disaster. Then we could have focused the entire world's most brilliant minds on the problem to save us from ourselves.
Same thing goes for clean energy. We all know there have been viable, clean alternatives to energy for over a hundred years. But greed stopped it. People were stopped because it didn't line someone's pocket.

I remember reading something about civilization types in the universe, and how one of the 'natural steps' towards becoming a Type 1/2 civilization would be a so called "holographic society", as in; everyone knows everything about everybody.
Not a bad idea if you ask me.

I would be interested in learning more about what you're referring to. Do you have any links? :)

The thing about the 'holographic society' might be hard to find - I read it back in 2006, I think. But the premise is rather simple, and falls in line with your own thoughts in the OP.
As for the civilization types, it's called Kardashev Scale.
Type I:
Type II
Type III
Human civilization is currently classified as a Type 0.
Edit: Found a rather esoteric article that touches some of the points that I remember - take it with a grain of salt, or 10.

<shift>+<enter> typically will insert a break making the text start on the next line - typically used in places where <enter> sends the message or posts the content.
