This could be similar to top songwriters believing they are 'channelling' the melody or lyrics from another spiritual plane. They can think it, but it doesn't make it reality. The main thing is they come up with the goods and enjoy an exhalted position as a result of that, so some people will take it seriously, which enhances their position further, which convinces them of their worldview further.
