When Enron was still in business they lobbied Al Gore to push for carbon credits to keep their energy fraud scheme going. They got what they wanted and then they were caught for their fraud. Some of the top guys killed themselves and others were sent to jail. Global Warming scam and Al Gore's carbon credit scheme is the same thing. AL Gore started a carbon credit business around the same time. And he's pushing for these carbon credits. It's an energy scam so they make money and at the same time have control of corporations and other countries.
No reason? Well, it creates a need. It creates a justification to regulate human actions. This expands the regulatory role of gov.t in private industry. It operates without borders, because it's a "worldwide problem". That justifies rewriting the role of nations.

I know global warming/climate change was a scam as soon as governments, ours included, started selling the "carbon credits", pay us and it makes it OK to pollute.

We are legitimately destroying the planet, and it needs to stop. Every few years, a huge scary story comes out, ozone layer, DEET, Ice age was coming, Global Warming.
It usually blows over, and some people get environmentally conscious, but this one had some meat behind it and has stuck around for a while.
In the end, the real winner was people now think about the environment, which is good. Solar panels are terrible for the environment, but pushing Green energy is very profitable. The original intent was to sell Carbon credits, but it was dumb as shit and no one got on board.
So it was spun to be green energy production, which also didnt take very well, mostly because you cant melt steel with photo cells. As it turns out, you can't even run a TV on a solar panel.
In the end, it looks like Nuclear is the winner, which pisses off the left.
Could have been an attempt at boosting the economy because the hosuing market was crashing, or something to sidetrack everyone that the country is in such bad shape. They are doing it now with BLM. In the 90s it was Gangs.
Spin to artificially inflate electricity prices to become on par with gasoline prices, and with electric cars coming in they will really want to find ways to keep it as expensive as the current system.
the thing is renewable energy is still just a pipe dream. we dont know if it works. the fall of solyndra showed us that globalization works because china torpedoed american solar
