I say that because this is only useful to show people who don't believe the media is controlled. However, those kind of people are likely to be very resisting to these sort of things. So it would be easy for many to instinctively use "oh, no sources, someone just made it up" as an excuse to not have to bear with the turmoil that would come with changing your entire world view. But the less "outs" there are, the more likely it is for the person to actually consider it being the case.

red herrings modernly are called false flags. long story short, red herrings(aka smoked) were used to train hunting dogs, and then when they went on real hunts, a red herring would sometimes throw off newer hunting dogs.
