Anti vax has actually been gaining good ground in the UK over the last half a decade or so. Many people have won court cases and received compensation, and also the government have set up a page at their official website to make claims and have put aside £60 mil for victims. Granted the majority is probably there for victims of the swine flu vaccine which caused brain damage in many but it says you can be eligible if you suffered from polio, rubella , and Meningococcal Group C vaccines too. It has been getting occasional coverage in the mainstream media in the UK but no doubt that will not be getting reported over in America.
Ah yes, the UK, where this latest round of hysteria was started by some dude trying to make some $$$ by drumming up irrational fears about existing vaccines so he could sell his own version. http://tallguywrites.livejournal.com/148012.html
I've never been too bothered with the vaccine debate myself, there are more interesting things to be researching. All I was saying is when your government sets aside £60 million for vaccine victims and will pay a one of tax free sum of £120k for each claim then you know they are acknowledging that vaccines are clearly doing damage to people.
I personally don't take any drugs unless I know I really need to, and I would certainly be thinking twice about any having vaccine that was pushed my way. The way things are going at the moment though it looks like many places are pushing for mandatory vaccines so maybe we won't be left with a choice soon.
Or, like in the example here, millions of dollars can be awarded in a single case, thus making £60 million a miniscule amount of money equivalent to 10 or so lawsuits, which is a shockingly low number given the number of people who receive vaccines. Anything that goes into a person's body, especially by needle, can cause reactions.
It is a small figure but the point was more about the government actually acknowledging that people have been getting serious illness from vaccines rather than sweeping it under the rug and dismissing it. Which kind of vindicates all the anti-vax people to some extent.

No, it doesn't. All medications and medical treatments carry risks. Aspirin can cause stomach ulcers. Getting a lidocaine injection can lead to heart problems. Hell, shampoo can cause skin irritation. Vaccines are not 100% safe, and no one is reasonably claiming they are. Vaccines carry a known and medically recognized risk of allergic reaction, injection site irritation, and in rare cases, can lead to autoimmune conditions due to hyperreactivity... those are the ones I know off the top of my head. What pro-vaxxers are saying is that there is no endemic negative reaction to vaccines, no sinister attempt to cover up such side effects, and that in the vast majority of people, they do what they are supposed to and nothing more. No autism, no permanent degradation of the immune system, none of it... it's all nonsense.
I did say to "some extent", I never said they was full on correct because of it. All I know is that I have seen a lot of propaganda regarding the issue lately and also a few places such as Australia making it mandatory to vaccinate, which to me seems to be infringing on civil liberties. All I know is that I don't think I would like to live in a world where I had to line up and roll my sleeve up and take a shot every time the government said the people had to. I want the choice of whether something goes into my body or not, and to be at least able to research into whatever vaccine it was before taking it.
