I only had the opportunity to see them in the wild myself twice, been wanting to move to the midwest and live on a ranch ever since.
The first one was life-changing for me: I was on a cliff overlooking a valley, and I heard the thundering hooves- it was a little frightening at first, but then I saw them coming into the valley. It was a profound moment for me, watching a couple hundred of those magnificent, beautiful beasts charging into the valley to drink from the pond at the bottom.
While they drank, I found myself mesmerized as I watched from about a hundred feet above them. It's one of those humbling moments that makes you feel very small and grants you a new respect for the wonders of nature. After a few minutes, they finished drinking, grouped up, and continued onward at a gallop. It was breathtaking. I am not ashamed to say I shed a tear or two as I watched them disappearing over the horizon.
They say dogs are man's best friend, and that's hard to argue against. But horses come in a close second place to that. Sometimes I'll just pull up a video of wild horses running, and I just enjoy watching them do their thing. Something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH9BkMViORI
I can't explain what it is about it that almost hypnotizes me. I've always loved horses, I raised them when I was young growing up on a farm, maybe they make me feel nostalgic.
No shame in shedding tears. I've got some family who really like them and go out and look for them where they live. They say they often see dumbies get too close but get lucky and not get hurt.

If you go to the southwest don't be a dumbass and do it when it's a 120 degrees outside. Lots of air rescues that should be left to die, but (((taxes))). Can't pay them if you're dead.
Mushrooms, but honestly anything that looks alien or has a unique environment. My folks used to have a prehistoric looking plant -wish I could remember the name- that had broad elephant ear like leaves with spikes along it's purple veins. Grew little orange fruits that were covered in a rough fuzz that were supposedly edible but were chock full of seeds (and incredibly sour).
I live in the Midwest. I often wonder how beautiful this area could have been without all the strip malls and parking lots. While it doesn't compare to mountains or oceans, it could be just as good in it's own way. Unfortunately we will never know.
I don't know why I never thought about that. Good call. I got involved in community gardening a bit last summer. I am going to try to get more involved in Gardening this year.
I love being by moving water! Streams, creeks, rivers, the waves of the ocean! The sounds that moving water makes is so calming and soothing. I've spent many hours wading creeks and fishing around here. I've drank from the spot where the water of streams bubble up out of the ground. I've watched all kinds of wildlife as they've been in and around water. Absolutely the best!
One of my favorites is a low rent natural disaster of an ice storm. We've had some here where I live that knock the power out for a whole week. They're fortunately rare.
We had one one night and it was brutal. The power was out and if you didn't have a good 4wd vehicle, don't even try to drive in it. It did it's number on us and the next morning the sky was clear and the sun came out all shining.
Everything looked like it was encased in glass. The trees, though suffering under the weight, were incredible. The sun hit it all and it shined brilliantly. It was also very peaceful. With the power out, the town was quiet. People weren't driving around, so no vehicle noises. For a little bit, it was magical in its beauty. Then BOOM. Ice would fall out of a tree or a limb would snap and crash down. The world struggled back to life and continued on.
I have to recommend it if you ever have an ice storm, to venture out right when it's freshly done and look at nature's handiwork.
Our ice storms are few and far between but when one does knock out the power, there is a calm that is hard to describe. Granted a light sleet will cause massive panic here so take that as you will. Nice to see more folks from /. by the way.
Falling snow in a forest or mountain type of setting. The place doesn't really matter, I just thoroughly enjoy watching it fall. It dampens the sound of the world and makes me feel at one with myself.
Those clouds could very well be man made. The shape of the coast and the silhouettes of the landscape in the background all look like man made objects too.
We don't transcend nature, we are a part of it and by extension anything we do should also be considered "natural"
I understand we are part of nature, but some goats like myself don't always get out. For me this was sorta self motivation thread to do so. Ivy not make it to the otherwise of the world but there sure as shit local
Stuff to do.
I still want to get a pet praying mantis, name it Zorak, and place a circular piano in the cage for it to nest on. Absolutely fascinated with carnivorous insects. Also, insects are the next big thing in a viable protein source I hear. Crickets are okay but I don't think I could eat anything squishy. Albeit Les Stroud does talk about how fried Witchetty grubs -and Andrew Zimmern about ginormous water bugs- taste like peanut butter with the texture of marshmallows...
I always get up before dawn. Always have. There is a great hush that falls over the landscape right before dawn, when humankind and all of nature still sleeps, or is heading off to slumber. Then the first rays of orange and pinkish light burst over the horizon and the new day bursts into being in a flood of noise and activity. I live for those inbetween moments, where everything is being created.
I like looking at pictures of the world tree. I have to look at pictures cause the last one died recently. Which begs the question, where were the environmentalists when this species of tree needed to be preserved?
They're a type of tree that's supposed to be related to the World Tree of norse myth. The people who followed Odin used to plant them as a sacred place type thing.
I've only seen one in person, actually just recently. There are a lot of hawks where I live. Oh yeah I saw a horned owl a while back early morning, that was really cool.
Not really. I was never taught to clean and cook a fish, and catch&release just seems pointlessly cruel to the fish. Like dangling a toy in front of a cat, except the toy sometimes pokes out the cats eye. Skating is too feminine for me, ill watch but not participate.
This is a sick joke. I believe this is one of the faces of the Archons, who are harvesting the force of our very being. I still think it's a good joke. It's impossible to have a healthy mindset in this Universe without a good sense of humor.
Any cold and frigid, and I mean to the point of freezing.
In such environments, I look around and know that the only things that survive are the strong and self-reliant. I live in a fairly cold climate right now and every time it snows or pours freezing rain/hail, I sit in my living room admiring the tranquility outside, knowing that while I am warm and toasty some worthless nigger is suffering.
Glad I didn't misremember. I'd have a hard time throwing out "weak" white babies. Maybe that's just part of their discipline. Deformed or something that won't survive is another story.
Doesn't matter. It's always a treat just to see one. Two days ago I was sitting in my car eating lunch, and a red tail hawk landed about 10 feet from me in a nearby tree. Another time, I was driving up a windy road in the hills, and saw a hawk swoop down right in front of me, and fly away with a live snake in its talons.
I was on a bench one day reading and heard this woosh woosh woosh, and out of nowhere a hawk snatched up a sparrow I had been watching a few minutes earlier.
It's just one off jewgle. There was a nice one in my city today that inspired the question. I like seeing wildlife as well, I just don't go out as much as I should. I should change that though this year.
It's pretty awesome. There's a real wealth of scenery all over the state, too, not just in the popular locations. I never enjoyed driving so much as when I lived there out in the country because of it.
I'll pick a branch out, maybe a "sucker" sapling next to another smaller tree that I deem needs the resources more than the other does. Hogs, coyotes, rabbit, Quail, Dove, Pheasant (with shotgun of course). I'm more of a hiker with a gun than a hunter with one. During hunting season, If I don't have a clean shot on something, I won't even draw up on it. I get as much of a kick out of watching the animal do its thing as I do while actively pursuing it. Even if drawn for an Elk tag, I don't feel obligated to HAVE to take an elk, any elk, just because I got a tag. Live and let live; let them get big. Just being in the outdoors is good enough for me. I built a pretty badass (if i may say) Ar for coyote last year. Sighted it in with ~50 rounds, and thats it. Went about 10 times, and I probably had 15 good chances to take a nice dog. Instead I watched them hop around my dads dieing rabbit call and be; well, dogs.
smaller tree that I deem needs the resources more than the other does
Sound like socialism, lol.
I like the response, glad you don't just maim them in an attempt to fill your license. I hope you get a lot of clean shots this year. Do you eat the coyote/ have you ever tried it at least once?
It was an FFA competition, but I know FFA isn't everywhere. Everyone wanted to do the animal judging competitions though, so land judging wasn't very popular.
Texture, friability, erosion, composition, etc. It's basically determining whether the soil is good for an agricultural purpose. I used what I learned quite a bit when buying land to farm, and ended up with some damned nice soil.
I have many in my home, I also feed the outdoor ones. I put out feeders full of thistle (attracts many varieties of finches) as well as a normal mix, and hummingbirds are attracted to my flowers that I grow every year. I am considering putting out one of those feeders this year but I like the less hassle/more natural function of flowers drawing them instead. Usually get lots of butterflies too. I also plan on having several pots of millet this year, I've never tried to grow my own but looks easy enough!
All I meant was anything outside of the realm of man. No machines, buildings, cars etc. With exception to Diggernicks everyone in the thread gets it, what's yours?
That's actually a hard question to answer I've not once considered.
I like the woods, snowy, foggy, rainy, doesn't matter. Rolling hills are nice, mountains are cool (though I've never seen the Rockybois or been around Appalachia.). I've never been to a beach or seen the ocean... I think I'd like it. Going to a reef with all those colors and fish would be pretty neat, though to be honest I don't think there will be an opportunity the way things are going.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Northern Lights at night, sitting on a treeline somewhere after a good snow so everything is quiet... That'd be nice.
NO resistance that's how. The Van Allen belts are of low quality. Moon targeting AND landing is BASIC physics and MATH. EZPZ. AT THAT TIME too. Ever get a shortwave broadcast from a foreign nation?
Once the signal get through thousands of miles of space filled with electromagnetic radiation it then has to go through the same atmosphere as normal broadcasts which use giant dishes and high power antennas. I am an engineer. I know math and physics. That's why I know we never went to the moon. When else in history did one nation go somewhere and nobody else followed?
Perhaps you were a poor engineer? I am a computer scientist. I know about the capabilities of the Apollo computation power (grad school). I do know, though admittedly limited, about things like the ability for a 12V radio signal to reach from the moon to Earth without significant loss in signal (under ideal conditions), due to the vacuum of space.
Did you ever have one of those radio docks for an iPod back in the day? They were 12V and barely worked in the car. Also, why did nobody else go? This is historical insanity. Why do you trust the government?
YES I did. Resistance is why they didn't work so good. Mine DID work good. I do NOT trust the government, I HAVE done my homework, scientifically, about what happened. I KNOW... I COULD go to the moon given the proper funding if I cared (I don't).
It's NOT CHEAP retard. It's easy. Just that PARASITES think it REQUIRES genius because nobody did it FIRST. Do you know a guy named Larry Masa? If you do, you KNOW me.
You don't understand how CHOKED innovation is by the STATUS QUO. Do you think truth comes from the fountain of the wealthy? Larry? Want to go to a booby bar with me again?
You avoid the simple truth. You say it's easy, then it's expensive. You think 12V can broadcast an uninterrupted live feed of analog video from the moon. You think the government is honest and the media tells the truth. Why did they destroy the tapes? Why did they destroy the technology? When else in human history did nobody else explore something because it was hard, even though you said it's easy? How many fucking dead bodies are on mount Everest? People explore every they can. Why did Elon Musk cancel his moon mission? Why is the published primary challenge of the Mars mission the Van Allen belt and getting out of low earh orbit? Wake up fool.
I didn't realize you were actually listening to me. (KIDDING). HEY 12V CAN (physics) transmit from moon to Earth (SCIENCE).
I like you Larry, just don't push it. You are an elevator repairman. My patent lawsuit lawyers had a BIG success with a falling elevator thing...you GET it right? PLEASE do not pretend I'm a nutball. Elon Musk? I don't know WHAT he's doing. I WISH I did, but I think he got his money, NOT because he was smart, but because he was LUCKY. AM I smarter than he is? I don't KNOW. I DO think he is WASTING his time doing what he is doing. I THINK the way to the future is NOT glamorous, it's arduous. I think ALL other's are frauds.
You are beyond hope. I bet you believe 6 million died in the holocost. Nobody cares what you LARP as online. Your imaginary successes are not an argument.
My successes are NOT imaginary, they are disappointing. Can you Sail? It WAS my dream. Me and the BITCH. Final loss. I am SO excellent at what I DO. You?
Best in the world. Living the dream. Unfortunately, that's not an argument. Your life goals have nothing to do with what was being discussed and neither do mine. You felt the need to add yours because you don't know how to make arguments or respond with logic and reason. You rely on "I'm right because I'm successful", despite that not mattering or being verifiable.
Just asking fag. I was just expressing that I thought you were not an enemy to me. Perhaps you are correct. Thing is. I'm autistic. I don't really care what people think at all.
Mom was the opposite of a whore. Believe me, I would TELL you. She was an alpha male. My sister (16 months >) tried to murder me as an infant. TOOK me from my crib and threw me down a flight of stairs (collarbone). Had an abortion later. You know...chicks...sheesh. Murderers. It's ALL about them., except they are sacrosanct. Hey fuck off retard.
have done both. Saw 55ft waves in the Bering Sea once. Saw a 30 ft rogue wave in the Santa Barbara Channel one night. Actually I enjoy watching surfing videos on YouTube a lot.
My son flew me to that airport right behind Mavericks last month. We parked and had dinner at a restaurant beside the harbor. Pretty nice all the way around, and the view of Christmas lights from 2500 feet was better than expected.
Hike. I don't want to go so fast as a bike. Plus I'm old n shit, so I need to be within range of rescue. True story, when I was a young man, I went hiking in the Adirondacks with my step father. Two nights in, he thought he was having a heart attack. I bushed out and called for help, and had to mark on a map where he was, so the helicopter could haul him out. Kidney stones, it turned out to be.
Following water is a pretty nice feeling. You get in your canoe and paddle upstream a few miles, then break for lunch and turn around to coast the whole way back to your launch.
My favorite is a good sunrise. When I go camping, I'll ask at the visitors center what trail has the best view. I'll wake up early, travel to the spot, make a cup of coffee, and wait. Absolute peace.
Many of my favorite moments were spent watching the sun set from high in the mountains. Star gazing on a clear night away from all the light pollution is also very moving.
I’ve been to Appalachia from the edge of Lovers Leap in fall, all the way to 13,000 feet and above the tree line in deep snow, alone and stalked in the Rockies. I’ve seen the Sierras from far and will eventually traverse the Pyrenees, the Andes, and the Himalayas before I die, but if I don’t, I go as often as I can in my dreams
Either way its man made. Natural birth-man made, test tube-man made, plastic shit at (((adult)))stores-man made. Trannies don't have vaginas, unless you're talking about ftm, all they have is a mutilated cock and no balls.

Most Midwest cities don't take too long to get outside of them at least.
flashrucker ago
This is true. I can drive an hour or two and be out in some nice nature.
King_Leopold_II ago
During the harvest seasons you can go watch the farmers do their thing.
flashrucker ago
I don't know why I never thought about that. Good call. I got involved in community gardening a bit last summer. I am going to try to get more involved in Gardening this year.

Probably mangroves, something about that blending of tree/water, sometimes they have crabs on the side of them. Pretty epic.
FSHLLtOW ago

HndrxMn ago
Our ice storms are few and far between but when one does knock out the power, there is a calm that is hard to describe. Granted a light sleet will cause massive panic here so take that as you will. Nice to see more folks from /. by the way.

Falling snow in a forest or mountain type of setting. The place doesn't really matter, I just thoroughly enjoy watching it fall. It dampens the sound of the world and makes me feel at one with myself.
Chimaira92 ago
Those clouds could very well be man made. The shape of the coast and the silhouettes of the landscape in the background all look like man made objects too.
We don't transcend nature, we are a part of it and by extension anything we do should also be considered "natural"
King_Leopold_II ago
Like I told relik88, I was just looking for stuff outside the realm of mankind.
Chimaira92 ago
I'm always triggered by the definition of nature lol
Anyway my favourite thing to look at would be an animal about to pounce on it's prey.
King_Leopold_II ago
I understand we are part of nature, but some goats like myself don't always get out. For me this was sorta self motivation thread to do so. Ivy not make it to the otherwise of the world but there sure as shit local Stuff to do.

Insects. 🐜 🐞 🕷
King_Leopold_II ago
I like some not many, but I think they almost all serve a purpose.
Incty ago
They’re fascinating, and so are their lives.
HndrxMn ago
I still want to get a pet praying mantis, name it Zorak, and place a circular piano in the cage for it to nest on. Absolutely fascinated with carnivorous insects. Also, insects are the next big thing in a viable protein source I hear. Crickets are okay but I don't think I could eat anything squishy. Albeit Les Stroud does talk about how fried Witchetty grubs -and Andrew Zimmern about ginormous water bugs- taste like peanut butter with the texture of marshmallows...
King_Leopold_II ago
I think some bugs have more protein than beef or chicken I think.

Dirty_Money ago
I always get up before dawn. Always have. There is a great hush that falls over the landscape right before dawn, when humankind and all of nature still sleeps, or is heading off to slumber. Then the first rays of orange and pinkish light burst over the horizon and the new day bursts into being in a flood of noise and activity. I live for those inbetween moments, where everything is being created.

I like looking at pictures of the world tree. I have to look at pictures cause the last one died recently. Which begs the question, where were the environmentalists when this species of tree needed to be preserved?
King_Leopold_II ago
Ill look it up by I enjoy the interaction with goats. With that in mind what's the world tree?
Merlynn ago
They're a type of tree that's supposed to be related to the World Tree of norse myth. The people who followed Odin used to plant them as a sacred place type thing.
King_Leopold_II ago
Interesting, I might look into it more just for curiosity sake.

King_Leopold_II ago
Do you like to skate or ice fish?
Korinthian ago
Not really. I was never taught to clean and cook a fish, and catch&release just seems pointlessly cruel to the fish. Like dangling a toy in front of a cat, except the toy sometimes pokes out the cats eye. Skating is too feminine for me, ill watch but not participate.
King_Leopold_II ago

This is a sick joke. I believe this is one of the faces of the Archons, who are harvesting the force of our very being. I still think it's a good joke. It's impossible to have a healthy mindset in this Universe without a good sense of humor.
King_Leopold_II ago
Oh gotcha. And yes humor is important, I like voat but the truth sucks. I try to be funny, sometimes I succeed and sometimes not.
When I asked my question, it's because I'm Christian and have often wondered if aliens were simply fallen angels/demons.

Spiders are cool too.

King_Leopold_II ago
I got to see the Grand Canyon last year, it was breathtaking.
NoTrueScotsman ago
It's pretty awesome. There's a real wealth of scenery all over the state, too, not just in the popular locations. I never enjoyed driving so much as when I lived there out in the country because of it.
ARsandOutdoors ago
I like to shoot guns in nature. Not a lot of repeating fire. But I’ll throw some lead with a lever gun
King_Leopold_II ago
What targets are your favorites?
ARsandOutdoors ago
King_Leopold_II ago
Sound like socialism, lol.
I like the response, glad you don't just maim them in an attempt to fill your license. I hope you get a lot of clean shots this year. Do you eat the coyote/ have you ever tried it at least once?

King_Leopold_II ago
What's one thing that stands out to you?
Epictetus_Hierapolis ago
Soil structure. I was on a varsety land judging team in school.
King_Leopold_II ago
I had no idea that exisisted. I went to a school that had a good ag program to, not sure if they're in the same group so to say.
Epictetus_Hierapolis ago
It was an FFA competition, but I know FFA isn't everywhere. Everyone wanted to do the animal judging competitions though, so land judging wasn't very popular.
King_Leopold_II ago
What's stuff you look for when doing it? Did you make a career out of it?
Epictetus_Hierapolis ago
Texture, friability, erosion, composition, etc. It's basically determining whether the soil is good for an agricultural purpose. I used what I learned quite a bit when buying land to farm, and ended up with some damned nice soil.
King_Leopold_II ago
Cool thanks for telling me. I honestly had no idea but it makes sense once I started thinking about it.

King_Leopold_II ago
Cool deal dude. I like humming birds a lot. Lots of color and how they fly/eat.

Big, small or doesn't matter?
Phantom42 ago
King_Leopold_II ago
If you live in a big city you could do a day trip and go see a nice park or something nearby.

Outer space.
SushiMasa ago
Perhaps some day man will go beyond low Earth orbit
thebearfromstartrack ago
They have. Are you following that idiot who says rockets don't work in outer space? They do, and you can prove it for yourself.
SushiMasa ago
They can't get through the Van Allen belts. Moon landing was a lie. How could the broadcast an analog live feed from the moon with 12V power?
thebearfromstartrack ago
NO resistance that's how. The Van Allen belts are of low quality. Moon targeting AND landing is BASIC physics and MATH. EZPZ. AT THAT TIME too. Ever get a shortwave broadcast from a foreign nation?
SushiMasa ago
Once the signal get through thousands of miles of space filled with electromagnetic radiation it then has to go through the same atmosphere as normal broadcasts which use giant dishes and high power antennas. I am an engineer. I know math and physics. That's why I know we never went to the moon. When else in history did one nation go somewhere and nobody else followed?
thebearfromstartrack ago
Perhaps you were a poor engineer? I am a computer scientist. I know about the capabilities of the Apollo computation power (grad school). I do know, though admittedly limited, about things like the ability for a 12V radio signal to reach from the moon to Earth without significant loss in signal (under ideal conditions), due to the vacuum of space.
SushiMasa ago
Did you ever have one of those radio docks for an iPod back in the day? They were 12V and barely worked in the car. Also, why did nobody else go? This is historical insanity. Why do you trust the government?
thebearfromstartrack ago
YES I did. Resistance is why they didn't work so good. Mine DID work good. I do NOT trust the government, I HAVE done my homework, scientifically, about what happened. I KNOW... I COULD go to the moon given the proper funding if I cared (I don't).
SushiMasa ago
Even if they could it doesn't mean they did. Why did they destroy the tapes and the tech? Their own story doesn't add up.
thebearfromstartrack ago
Why can't I watch the Victor Mature SAMPSON movie now? You you think EVERYTHING is a lie?
SushiMasa ago
Why did nobody else go
thebearfromstartrack ago
Where fag?
SushiMasa ago
The moon you government trusting cuck gay boy. Why did nobody else go to the moon if it's so fucking easy?
thebearfromstartrack ago
It's NOT CHEAP retard. It's easy. Just that PARASITES think it REQUIRES genius because nobody did it FIRST. Do you know a guy named Larry Masa? If you do, you KNOW me.
SushiMasa ago
Name any other time in history that one country explored something and nobody else bothered? You are brainwashed by public school and Jew media.
thebearfromstartrack ago
You don't understand how CHOKED innovation is by the STATUS QUO. Do you think truth comes from the fountain of the wealthy? Larry? Want to go to a booby bar with me again?
SushiMasa ago
Wake up fool.
thebearfromstartrack ago
SushiMasa ago
You are beyond hope. I bet you believe 6 million died in the holocost. Nobody cares what you LARP as online. Your imaginary successes are not an argument.
thebearfromstartrack ago
My successes are NOT imaginary, they are disappointing. Can you Sail? It WAS my dream. Me and the BITCH. Final loss. I am SO excellent at what I DO. You?
SushiMasa ago
Best in the world. Living the dream. Unfortunately, that's not an argument. Your life goals have nothing to do with what was being discussed and neither do mine. You felt the need to add yours because you don't know how to make arguments or respond with logic and reason. You rely on "I'm right because I'm successful", despite that not mattering or being verifiable.
thebearfromstartrack ago
Just asking fag. I was just expressing that I thought you were not an enemy to me. Perhaps you are correct. Thing is. I'm autistic. I don't really care what people think at all.
SushiMasa ago
I'm not your enemy, just a truth teller. Life is better when lived in accordance with truth. Your mother is a whore.
thebearfromstartrack ago
Mom was the opposite of a whore. Believe me, I would TELL you. She was an alpha male. My sister (16 months >) tried to murder me as an infant. TOOK me from my crib and threw me down a flight of stairs (collarbone). Had an abortion later. You know...chicks...sheesh. Murderers. It's ALL about them., except they are sacrosanct. Hey fuck off retard.
