I play drums and rap for 3 piece original band. Kind of a funk rock hip hop deal like some beastie boys or old school chili peppers. Just played out last night in fact.
I agree, the low end electric kits have absolutely no sensitivity. Good luck doing a double stroke on that. Some of the more expensive electric kits have better control, but you simply cannot make the same range of sounds as you can on an actual drum or cymbal.
Guitar, drums, many brass instruments, and piano. I like anything that makes noise.
I'd say I'm best at piano and drums, but I like being good at everything and not just those two. My recently favorite songs to play drums on are Fire by Jimi Hendrix, Take 5 by Dave Brubeck, and The Ocean by Led Zeppelin. And my piano preferences is anything jazz, I love improvisation. However I'm leaning how to play Dreamer by Supertramp on piano rn...
+1 for not being a political question. I love my nazi goats but sometimes I'm looking to just unwind.
Late to the party... whoops... yes, play guitar, piano, harmonicca, sing and write lyrics... you guys rock! Love it... so nice to see a bunch of musicians here...
Attempt to Track them down, open up a local twitter/facebook account, offer a reward. Stick posters up, keep asking around for your guitar, describe the little unique colors and scratches on your instrument...at this stage its not the getting the guitar back that matters so much now, its the fact you lost it and allowed some piece of shit to steal your guitar. If there are lots of junkies and hoodrats in your area, then you got a lot of work to do you better get to work ASAP to clean up your neighborhood. Thieves and pieces of shit exist because only our tolerance allows it, do not tolerate them even for one second.
I do. I play geetar(think Eddie Van Halen Live Without A Net) and keyboards the best but I can play anything. My neighbors get the shit jarred off their walls a few times a week.
Acoustic guitar. Know shit load of songs from back in the day. I just do them like the record. Except Long Haired Country Boy by Charlie Daniels I sing sometimes as Long Dicked Country Boy.
Like tackling fingerstyle songs because you can't just bang out chords forever. Youtube is great for learning fingerstyle arrangements. I've even paid for a few from some of those guys.
Jewsharp is a really cool instrument. If somebody wants to learn an interesting instrument, I suggest that one. Check out some youtube videos on it.
Amarillo By Morning's violin intro fits really well on the guitar. The notes fall under your fingers if you play the D in the 10th position, the F#m in the 9th position, the G in the 7 position and the D in the 5th position or the first position. The second time around you finish on the 5th position A. Or open A which is a reach.
I play the piano and theremin. I played the french horn for 7 years but stopped because it is so damn hard. Also I used to play the skin flute but had to stop because it hurt my back.
Tried guitar for years. My fingers are too fucked up. I've had a few reconstructive surgeries done on my hands. I like to think my hands work pretty good these days; just not for anything made for human hands.
Just do it, 10 minutes a day is not a lot to commit to. Can't promise it will stay at 10 minutes, but atleast 10 is easy to commit to. Some days it will only be 10 minutes... and that's ok too...
Drums are fun but it's a poor choice of instrument if you're living in close proximity to others. I've got a set but haven't been able to play it in a few years because I live in an apartment.
Guitar, bass, mandolin, harmonica, sing, shitty piano (no really I suck). Played pro for years, and now just hang with aged musicians around the fucking tar pit and help people record.

Guitar, ukulele, piano, accordion. Used to play bass, trumpet and baritone as well.

Pretty neat line-up except the ukulele. If I wanted to play a mini-guitar I'd play a violin.

Almost every time I banged a chick back in high school and freshman year of college was cause of the uke. It works wonders man. Almost like a puppy.

True this, but without song, film, music, writing, art and other entertainment and artistic activity the human is just a soulless machine.

swiftpaw12 ago
Drums and guitar.
Vocals too, but singing isn't really playing an instrument.
ArtsyLiberationz ago
For me the human body counts, singing is also an instrument. Is a tap dancer not also musical?
crazy_eyes ago
Singing counts more than the skinflute

I play regularly but I don't practice so I don't have much skill. I sometimes play synthesizer.
Waiyu_Dudat ago
I play sax and regularly gig in a trio. I'm kind of a big deal.
JayDawgInTheHouse ago
Keep it funky man, i love jamming sax players. Such a sweet fucking sound.
ArtsyLiberationz ago
I've heard of Johnny Hodges, Stan Getz, Coltrane, Charlie Parker but never heard of you...you musn't be that big of a deal
Waiyu_Dudat ago
Well, girls throw their panties at me on the regular and my dog never stops singing along. I'd take those as good signs.
heygeorge ago
Much, although it's more irregular than I'd like. There's an old axiom about having to practice every day that I wish I stuck to.
What do you play?
heretolearn ago
skin flute, daily. ziiiiiiiiing.

Does drums count? Otherwise I'll fiddle around with my guitars or bass but I sit down at my set at least 1000 times a day if I'm home.
JayDawgInTheHouse ago
Fuck yeah, keep on drumming fellow drummers!
Cheesebooger ago
Drummers are not musicians. They are the pizza delivery guys.
MyNameIsMud ago
That's why I was asking
Cheesebooger ago
I'm just kidding. Guitarists should always give drummers a hard time lol
MyNameIsMud ago
And drummers should always give guitarists the right time.
Cheesebooger ago
lol What's the right time? My drummer of 24 years died on 4/20. Now who will deliver my pizza?
MyNameIsMud ago
Sorry to hear that man. Taking a bong rip in his honor. Sounds like he's got big pizza boxes to fill.
