First off, sorry if this subverse is meant to remain meta. So far I've only seen people asking about the structure of Voat itself, but I thought it would be good to kick-start the independent content if this is meant to more closely resemble that other Ask sub.
I'm listening to Morning Phase by Beck right now, and I can't believe how beautiful the sound is. He has really matured as an artist. I always remembered him as this silly, bells-and-whistles style funkadelic beatnik. Now he's playing from this perspective of a sage, like he's very comfortable with warm, simple ambiance and doesn't feel the need to attract attention. I can't say enough good things about this album.
Anyway, the stereotype is that most bands/musicians have a great debut album, then rush out a less-than-great sophomore album in order to cash in on their initial popularity. Then the creativity dies once they hit 30. Are there any other songwriters who kept getting better as they aged?

Showing my age here - Jorma Kaukonen, Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, David Gilmour and the rest of Pink Floyd...

Oh I'm definitely with you on Floyd. Their older stuff was great, but Division Bell was amazing, and Learning to Fly is probably my single favorite song of all time. I hate that whenever I tell people that, they always imagine the Tom Petty song (also good, but puzzling why anyone would consider it their favorite of all time.)

I'm with you was a pretty decent album but I'm really excited to hear what they've come up with working with danger mouse

Darius Rucker. That man has pipes.

Swans. I love their early no-wave stuff, but their post-reformation output has been on another level. I thought The Seer was one of the best albums of the last decade, then To Be Kind blew it out of the water.

Incubus falls into the same category for me. I don't think their new stuff is necessarily better than their old stuff, but the sound and style is way different and I enjoy it just as much.

Taylor Swift. She's gone from teeny bopper to self aware artist with an insanely good voice. I may not like her particular style of music or what she sings about, but god damn does that woman have a voice.

I came here to say Beck, but you beat me to the punch. I guess I'll go with Dinosaur Jr. They've always been awesome, but I think their most recent albums have been top notch.

Good choice with Beck. I'll go with New Order. While I enjoy Joy Division, I feel like the types of songs they would go onto write with New Order are leaps ahead...and catchier. I think 'Regret' is an excellent single and shows even as they neared the end of the 80s they could put something together.

Dave Grohl. Nirvana was and always will be great, but the Foo Fighters are even better.

I'm not a huge fan of his in FF, although I am think they're good. However, every album he's guest drummed on is amazing.

Came here to say Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters. I really liked Sonic Highways and look forward to every album as they get better and better!

This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but Genesis. The progressive era was undoubtedly good, but I feel like they really belonged when Collins stepped in and turned them into this awesome pop rock group that anyone can appreciate.
