Conventional directed energy weapons, just different kinds of emissions and lasers, are easily shielded against by faraday mechanisms, insulation, and reflective surfaces.
There's a range of weaponry I don't think any countries have yet that could be called energy weapons. I like to think we won't need many weapons at that point, but it doesn't seem to be the case.
