Goats use Voat for different purposes; some of us use it as a sort of alternative publishing platform for our research (e.g. myself, maybe the HRC guy, some of the Pizzagaters and some of the QRV guys). If this research isn't spiderable, and otherwise isn't easily accessible (e.g. requires login, but new accounts are closed), then many of us research posters have lost a lot of what we used this platform for. Since there is no other platform for us online right now, Voat has truly turned into a containment board.
The concept of a replacement level applies to website userbases as well as populations. Online, you can't make families with other accounts and reproduce new accounts. Unironically (yet still ironically), replacement migration is the only way that a web population can grow.
Thus my argument: Goats leave all of the time and are replaced with new goats. This can't happen now, and, unless it changes, Voat will die.

Has anything happened regarding PIA and the free VPN offer?
seems like ddos/login only have pushed all that to the background
Le_Squish ago
You dumb.
Voat can stay exclusive forever especially since we're are not ad revenue dependent. We only need the invite system to work.
I got a login on another closed community. They only open registration once a year but otherwise are invite only and they got plenty of people there, more than voat.
What they jews taught you is not the only model for a business. Customer retention is actually more important than unique views.
alele-opathic ago
This assumes we have that. I've watched the smaller subs die over the years, and the larger ones are broken records. We didn't have customer retention before Voat closed, so we surely don't have it now.
I'm one of the few people left trying to submit original content, and, for us, impact/reach/whatever you choose to call it is the most important, as its what makes the process of wasting life to actually dig up, create, compile, write, format, and submit this shit worth it. You want someone to actually meaningfully build on or use the information you provide.
(I think I am reading this right): The torrent communities work because people that want to join already know what they will find when they get in / what they want to find once inside, and, given the legal situation, the additional hoops to join are seen as reassuring of security rather than annoying.
Communities like Voat are based around discussion and sharing of human-readable info. Most of the people who join lurked first, until they discovered something interesting that 'captured' them. This process of capturing attention is well documented, it's why the 'youtube rabbit hole' exists, companies like StumbleUpon make money helping websites do this better, etc.

Why don't you take a seat over there.

Right now I'd be happy if Voat was stable. "Playpen broken!"

My education was complete before voat. I don't need voat. The incestuous troll army here doesn't need voat.
The uneducated need voat (and other freedom platforms).
Future actions by putt should be aimed towards the uneducated.

I'd love to challenge that. Did you know:
I have assloads more if you like. I'm still polishing what will probably be my best work, surrounding Masons, slavery, women in politics, and the civil war. And this didn't even touch on the tons of tiny things I drop all the time on topics from the War for Linux to basic Physics.

Lol. I have no dog in this fight, but, c'mon, man.
alele-opathic ago
You do, actually, since you have an account here and (presumably) want Voat to survive for posterity.
I was chuckling a bit as I wrote that, but it is true. Replacement migration is solely bad because there is a perfect option that already exists, namely reproduction, that you'd have to first ignore or stifle. Reproduction isn't a thing online, hence why onboarding and 'user capture' is a thing.

I'm sure it will eventually, but what's the rush?
Armpit_and_Ass ago
The rush is that in barely a month, voat went from a decent right-wing- & nationalist-themed content aggregator, discussion & sharing platform to a civnat/qtard/muh-based-negroes shit-tier cesspool for sharing quips, one-liners, and blurry, grainy, resized, cropped, and watermarked trash that people find on faceberg/twitter.
There's no valid reason that these so-called outside attacks are being dealt with by closing account registration or needing to log in to view the site. That's just not how DDOS attacks work.
One thing that I find telling is how the site hangs all the time. Write a post, click submit, and it just sits there forever. Click again, and your post sometimes goes through, sometimes not. Click again and again and it eventually will. But then go look at your own post history and there two or five or six posts that were made. Why did it hang?
8chan started acting the same way 'round the clock (i.e., regardless of actual time-correlated demand on site infrastructure) after their so-called "hack" in April '18, and stayed that way until the day it went down.
alele-opathic ago
Pings in edits don't go through.
That said, I haven't much of a response to this - it echoes my thoughts on the matter. I also smell a 'plausibly deniable' eventual Voat shutdown in this. We will see.
Nosfewratsjews ago
You're just now realizing Voat is a CIA honeypot? They replaced Putt long ago.
alele-opathic ago
I can't see anything positive coming out of this for any of the people who use Voat. Most of the zoomers use Voat because they are legitimately trying to 'redpill normies', which involves new people seeing new information. This potential for exposure doesn't exist now, so what of them? Infinichan is still kill, 4chan is pozzed, Reddit is controlled, etc.
So what of the research posters? Their only other option is to create personal blogs to dump their info on, and Google/DDG/Bing/etc shoahs them, and then what?
NOMOCHOMO ago
I've long hypothesized that the goal is ideological ghettos. Each style of platform is replicated and filter bubbled, so competing ideas can't be introduced.
Left: Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter
Right: Voat, Minds, Bitchute, Gab
The image boards have to be killed for this strategy to be totally effective. They are the last platform with consistent crosspolination.
WORF_MOTORBOATS_TROI ago
Fucking zoomers zhouldn't be directing people to voat in the first place. If they see something here they want to share they should copy and paste it.
Reverse-Flash ago
I have to agree with him on more than a few levels, and the first one is the fact that this is what (((they))) want. We are now isolated.
