So what's a relationship movie doing on /v/theredpill? That's because Blue Valentine isn't some sappy, feelgood chick flick relationship movie, that has guys looking at their watch wondering when it's going to end.
TL;DR: It's a raw, brutally honest look about the death of a relationship due to hypergamy as a couple who got married in a NRE haze grows apart, hurting their daughter most of all.
Interestingly, I looked up a bunch of reviews, and found that none of the professional media movie critics had any clue what this film was about, and basically spewed useless gobbledygook, while if you look at reviews by regular people on places like IMDB, you can see that a lot of them "get it." The Blue Pill Matrix in the media I guess.
Dean and Cindy both come from dysfunctional, lower class backgrounds. Cindy has gotten pregnant by Bobby, who is your standard Bad Boy Women Love® kindof a guy.
Cindy meets and immediately likes Dean, who is funny, carefree, and seemingly the antidote to her toxic relationship with Bobby, and her toxic family.
Dean puts himself firmly in Nice Guy® territory by caring for Cindy while she's decides about whether to abort, then when she decides to keep the baby offers to be father to her daughter even though he knows the baby won't be his.
They get married, Cindy is motivated to improve herself by going to college, gets a middle class job working as a nurse, while Dean isn't interested in a career and seems to be quite happy going nowhere as a painter who drinks a lot of beer.
It's obvious Cindy is bothered by Dean's lack of ambition, and he displays insecurities as few times, sending himself down into lower levels of betadom.
And then comes the key moment in the movie when Dean wants to take Cindy out of the house for a Romantic Getaway®. The fact that Cindy doesn't want to go is the key showing that their relationship is on the way down.
Note to married guys: there are many signs that can tell you you've become betaized in your wifey's eyes, but one of the most reliable is when she doesn't want to go on a getaway where sex is on the menu.
Everything falls apart more and more as it becomes clear Cindy regards Dean as an embarrassment as she moves up the social scale, and his insecurity about her having re-encountered Bobby adds fuel to the fire.
What's also clear is that Dean has no clue about why his relationship world is crashing down around him. Like most guys who have no understanding of hypergamy.
Eventually, they call it quits, and the movie ends with a heartbreaking scene of daughter Frankie losing the man who had become her dad . . .

Hi @00ellis,
A thought. When movies on the list have been reviewed in a thread on /v/theredpill, like this one here or Eyes Wide Shut, could you include a link to the review thread?
That way explanations of how the movie is related to the Red Pill wouldn't get lost scrolling down.

are there spoilers?
thanks for posting up, but im not gonna read it until i know if there are spoilers.
I'll add it to my queue. Hypergamy and Solipsism are the largest redpills i've ever swallowed with regards to women.

Yup.
In fact, if you read the post above, you'll watch the whole movie aware of how everything unfolds according to the Red Pill.
I guess we could set up some kind of convention where Red Pill movie descriptions would have spoilers in the title somewhere (or could one of those little flair thingies be added that says Spoilers?)
I didn't think to add a spoilers warning, since I actually love spoilers. They don't actually "spoil" anything for me.

cool, thank you for the response.
there's some kind of way to make some words be in a red/burgundy block, and when you hover your mouse on it, it will show the content. i think it's literally called a "spoiler" but i dont know how to do it.

HOLYSHIT I found it :) in the little buttons above the typing box, when you can click the "bold, underline, strikethrough" buttons etc etc, there's one that looks like a triangle with a white thing in the middle. that's it!
