For a while in history it was all over Japan, Historical documentation of male- and female-assigned transgender people is extensive, especially in the Edo period. Transmasculine people were found especially in Yoshiwara, the Tokugawa shogunate banned women from acting in kabuki, male-assigned performers took on the roles of women. Some, such as onnagata actor Yoshizawa Ayame (1673-1729) dressed, behaved and ate like women. The Society turned inward a lot of the Samurai, Prince and Shoguns went full homo, Tokugawa shogunate in Japanese history, same-sex relationships took on major role, Asia and other anicent society were the original tinsel towns.
