From a legal standpoint of what constitutes negligence, I think it can be safely argued that knowingly bringing a gun into a place where guns aren't allowed (when using a different gun as part of an unsanctioned initiation) is in fact a negligent act. The article doesn't say, but apparently Eid entered a guilty plea to a negligent homicide charge and was sentenced to five years probation.
