I run my own VPN but for a different reason. Running your own VPN for anynomity or secure browsing doesn't make a bit of sense unless it's in a different country or something
It depends on how you do it. If I'm at home then my activities can obviously be tracked back to my home connection. If I'm out of town then all of my VPN routed traffic is encrypted, and sent through my home network. It can still be tracked back to my home connection, but that's it. From an outside perspective it basically looks like I'm always "at home." I guess somebody could do a bandwidth and traffic analysis to figure out that I'm using the VPN, but meh.
Oh definitely. And when you're away it make you much more secure because then it's just as secure than as if you were at home, which is better than a hotel network or a Starbucks network.. so sure.
