The Georgia Guidestones were erected about a decade after MITs Limits to Growth study, which stated that the World's population falls to about 500m simply as a result of the end of the oil age.
What I think the people who erected the stones are thinking is that if the population is going to fall that far then it's going to be our offspring that will be amongst the survivors.
It's just an attempt at scaring the public in my opinion.
