I suspect that now we are seeing life imitate art, and the agents are being slowly red pilled as they get exposed to unfiltered information. They work for a bureaucracy that stifles the individual, and slowly erodes patriotism, their bosses are oblivious to this fact, then are shocked and horrified when loyal people cease being loyal, and turn on them.
